Dr. Randi Smith, Ettrick Elementary and Dr. Amanda Voelker, James River High

Two principals in Chesterfield County Public Schools are among the first Principals of Distinction in Virginia. Congratulations to Ettrick Elementary Principal Dr. Randi Smith and James River High Principal Dr. Amanda Voelker for being the only central Virginia school leaders in the inaugural Principals of Distinction class.

This recognition and professional development program is a partnership of the Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals, Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals, Virginia Board of Education and Virginia Department of Education.

“This year’s Principals of Distinction are delivering on what high expectations and excellence looks like for every student,” said Virginia Superintendent of Public Instruction Jenna Conway. “Through this program, and through their commitment to continuous improvement to meet the needs outlined in Virginia’s School Performance and Support Framework, these individuals are leading the way to provide high quality education and supports for every student.”

Candidates selected for the Principals of Distinction program demonstrated strong leadership in student achievement, instructional practices and school culture, then participated in a professional training symposium and completed a capstone project over six months.
