Elizabeth Scott Elementary students, staff and parent chaperones headed to the National Museum of African American History and Culture when schools were closed on Presidents Day, Feb. 17.

To be part of the Black History Month field trip, students were asked to write about why they wanted to go. Responses included:

  • I want to learn about my heritage;

  • I want to learn more about Black history; and

  • I have never been on a field trip before.

The school’s PTA paid for two buses to transport 80 students and 30 adults up Interstate 95 to Washington. During their time at the museum, students took notes on what they learned so they could write an essay about their experience.
